Visit a National Park….for FREE!

Celebrate the grandeur of the National Parks by getting out and discovering something new about the nation’s 394 national parks. Best of all, the National Park Service is offering fee-free park days* at 100 parks that usually charge admission. So whether you already own or are ready to rent an RV, it’s a great time to plan an outdoor adventure.

This year's focus, “Healthy Parks, Healthy People,” highlights the connection between human and environmental health and the vital role America's national parks play in both.  Outdoor activities and RVs go hand-in-hand as well – a recent survey showed that 86% of RVers hike or walk on their trips and nearly half bike.  RVs are an ideal self-contained way to experience the parks regardless of age or physical condition.

Your RV makes a great getaway basecamp after a day of hiking in the glorious surroundings of a national park or forest. Miles of trails, guided and unguides hikes, nature centers and activities give RVers the opportunity to spend one or several days exploring at their leisure.  Some national parks offer basic camping but there are also many campgrounds and RV parks surrounding most parks and forests.  Find a Go RVing campground wherever your travels take you.

Whether your prefer a 20-mile backcountry hike in Yosemite or a leisurely stroll around Philadelphia's Independence Hall, moving outside is good for you and offers a chance to explore these places you own.  Search the events calendar to find your National Park Week "must-dos."

Throughout 2011, the National Park Service is offering fee-free park days at 100 parks that usually charge admission.  Make plans to head to a park for one of these remaining dates:  June 21 (First day of summer); September 24 (Public Lands Day); November 11-13 (Veterans Day weekend), so mark your calendar.   But did you know that many of the nation’s 394 parks never charge an admission fee? Sounds like a great reason to pack up the RV and head out to visit some of our country’s most precious natural wonders.

*Fee waiver includes: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise.
